Computing

Computing is a subject where you will learn about the principles of computer science, computer systems, programming, and security and encryption. You will also learn how professionals analyse and develop applications and large scale software.

What will I study?

There are 6 units in A level Computing. You will study:

  1. Fundamentals of Programming (Python)
  2. Fundamentals of Data Structure and Representation
  3. Computer Systems, Architecture and Organisation
  4. Theory of Computation
  5. Problem Solving and Algorithm Design
  6. Functional Programming - practical project.

What can I do with A-Level Computing?

Students who have studied Computing at Thetford have gone to a range of Level 4 Apprenticeships, degree courses, and internships, including Games Computing, Mobile App Development, Website Development, and Computer Science. Computing also supports applications to other science and engineering courses and qualifications.

Entry Requirements

If you are doing GCSE Computer Science you need to get a Grade 6.

Otherwise, you need to get a Grade 6+ in Maths.
