Music Technology

Music Technology is a fascinating and hugely rewarding subject. You will learn the art of recording, from setting up microphones to mixing and mastering music using advanced software. There is also a creative element composing using technology to a variety of briefs. Improving aural skills are also key elements of the course. You will also learn about the development of music technology and study various focus styles of  popular music, including Blues, Jazz, Punk and Electonic Dance.

What will I study?

There are four components to A-Level Music Technology. You will study:

  1. Component 1: Recording
  2. Component 2: Technology based composition
  3. Component 3 Listening and analysing
  4. Component 4: Producing and analysing.

What can I do with a BTEC Music?

Music Technology can lead to a career in sound engineering or composition either in live venues, broadcast studios, film sets or recording studios, composing for film or computer games. The course will equip you with the technical and creative skills which
can be used across many industries. The skills you learn in numeracy, literacy and application of knowledge during the course are transferrable to many future careers.

Entry Requirements

If you are studying Music you will need to get a BTEC Merit or a GCSE Grade 5+ 

If you are not doing Music at KS4 you would need to show experience with music technology and 5+ in GCSE Maths.

Alternative entry requirements Grade 5+ on a musical instrument and Grade 5 theory.
