Media student, Joshua Barrett who is currently studying at Thomas Paine Sixth Form, has been published in a book by Film East.  

The book, titled ‘Screen Britain’, combines the diverse voices of fifteen critics, film-makers and creatives. ‘Screen Britain’ historical and contemporary British visual media to explore national identity through the cinematic lens. This book’s twenty original articles analyse over thirty-five UK-made films and television programmes, including classics like ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘James Bond’, as well as modern masterpieces like ‘The Souvenir’ and ‘Aftersun’. 

Currently studying Photography, Politics and Media Studies at Thomas Paine Sixth Form, Josh is the only A-Level student to contribute to the book, with the other authors involved being graduates, post-graduates and experts in their field. This is an outstanding achievement with Josh showing exceptional skill and talent well beyond his years. 

Thomas Paine Sixth Form purchased a copy of the book which has taken pride of place in Thetford Academy's extensive library, having been signed by Josh, for his peers to enjoy and be inspired by.  

Last year, Josh was published on the Film East website with his article on Media Marketing and Social Realism on the 2016 film, I, Daniel Blake. With a strong interest and talent for photography and film-making, he finds writing articles to be a great way to expand his skills and further develop his passions.  

Year 13 student, Josh said: 

“This opportunity has been brilliant for me to expand my skills and work with an amazing organisation like Film East. The immense amount of talent of the other creatives I worked with will go on to inspire me through my studies and future endeavours. The most important thing about this book to me was proving to people to make most of the situation they are in.”
