Food Science and Nutrition

Food Science and Nutrition is a subject for people who enjoy cooking and have a passion for learning about food. You will gain knowledge about Food Science and Nutrition and the relationship between food and the human body. There is a strong emphasis on practical work, making this an ideal choice for students who prefer learning through doing.

 

What will I study?

You can achieve a Certificate or Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition, depending on the number of units studied: 

Unit 1: Planning to meet nutritional needs (mandatory)  

Unit 2: Ensuring food is safe to eat (mandatory) 

Unit 3: Experimenting to solve food production problems 

Unit 4: Current issues in consumer food choice.

What can I do with Level 3 Food Science and Nutrition?

People who study Food Science and Nutrition can gain entry to higher education courses such as Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Food Science and Technology. An understanding of food science and nutrition is relevant to many industries and job roles.

Entry Requirements

If you are doing Level 2 in Hospitality and Catering then you need to get a Level 2 Pass. If you are doing GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition then you need to get a Grade 5+
